Luttrell and Cassidy Brothers

The following information regarding the Edward, Anthony and Patrick Luttrell and their cousins Edward and Bernard Cassidy is taken from old papers circulated within the family circle some years ago. I have marked the item "anonymous" as I have been unable to determine who the author was. I have typed the article word for word so as to maintain its originality.

Brother Paul (Edward Luttrell)
Edward Luttrell entered Farragher Monastery on the 6th of July 1865 and recieved the habit from Dr. Gilhooley, Bishop of Elphin on the 22nd of April 1866.

He was full of favour of Zeal for observance and glowing with the most ardent charity of all. He loved his brothers with a great love and served them to the last with a disinterestedness that charmed and edified everyone in close touch with him.
His simple satraight way of acting towards his neighbours, his childlike candour, his transparent to principle and to truth and to Community life endeared him to all. The virtues oif his simple guileless franciscan soul was a stay and support to his community and failed not to influence many outside the Cloister.
His Life was truly hidden in God. He was true to every prescription of the rule : true to his order and to the brothers and the faithful in holy obedience. He was loved by all the Brothers because he was a true Franciscan Religious, a grand example to all in his observance of the Franciscan rule.

At an early age he joined the order at Clara where he devoted himself with the unselfish zeal which characterised him, to the interests of the monastery he loved so well and to the wefare of the people of Clara.
After profession he was employed teaching in the monastery school. Of striking and gentlemanly appearance, affable and engaging in manner, he won and held the high affection of his pupils from the beginning. To his deep regret he was at a comparatively early age through delicate health obliged to sever his connection with teaching.
Henceforth his talents were devoted to the other interests of his community, as well as those of the public generally at whose disposal he always placed himself when council or help was required. He was in charge of the parochial book Society of the parish for years and furthered by every means the dissemination of useful books, religious and historic in the district with other members of the community, he gave very valuabel help to the Clergy in providing funds for the building of the parish Church.
